Super Quick Mise en Scène
A cozy photo for one and all. This is my writing desk, with my thinkpad and Julian of Norwich icon and some oil pastels I made in high school which for some reason I remain completely fascinated by, and—most importantly, for the purposes of this carefully constructed website—the first iteration of my poetry manuscript.
I’ve been writing poems in old journals and the backs of receipts and losing them then finding them and then losing them again gathering material for this collection for about six years. Normally it doesn’t take that long for me to accumulate this much material, but I’ve been pretty distracted by things like parenting, jobs, puzzling over genres, etc., and by the time my daughter turned 4, I realized I had a lot of poems I needed to write Creating a collection that hangs together requires a few main arteries of desire, need, revelation, and a kind of faith, and I had those. I want to share them.
I forget why there’s a beer can, I think when I took this photo I was finishing it up before sitting down to work and thought the label was cool enough for this scene (it’s Thunder Ann, from Jackelope Brewery nearby in Nashville).
Regardless, I’m unsure how often I’ll be blogging, since my blogging style tends to be overexposed analytical angst or shopping lists, rather than chill business cazh, and I’m going for SUPER minimal chic mystique, here. But I may get into it, we’ll see. :) Thanks for reading, and check back for updates on publications and special projects.
Lastly, if you’re into informal book reviews, find my Instagram icon at the top of the home page and follow me there. I’ve been told if I get enough followers, publishers will send me free books, so obviously I’m selling what’s left of my soul for that purpose.
